I have to say that Holford’s PR team are indefatigable and obviously both efficient and effective.

I, too, was heartened by BDA comment albeit I still feel that the journalist should have done some research and not given uncritical reporting of some fairly odd assertions.

When I started reading my copy of “The Independent” on the train yesterday I inwardly groaned when I saw there an article on food allergies. It was a dead cert’ that a certain some one would be quoted and sure enought there he was.

However, it was the first newspaper article I have seen where dieticians are quoted giving an answer to some of Mr Holford’s opinions. Well done to the BDA! Hopefully, you will also be able to engage with organisations like the NAHT and Mind which seem to be interested in Mr Holford’s philosophy.

Thank you, UK Dietitian. I sometimes think that I am so engulfed in the rising tide of Holford errors that I lose the will to comment on all of them as there gets to be a point where it seems mean. But that's you dietitians all over - cluttering up your brains with useless facts like the actual composition of foods and the actual plausibility of theories involving food intolerance rather than having vision. ;-) That is why the little people just serve to impede the progress of the 'supers', to extend Holford's frequent use of George Bernard Shaw (see, e.g., BMJ Rapid Response) in which he admonishes us:

Those of you who say it can’t be done should not interrupt those of us who are doing it.

The nervology :-)

You quote Holford as saying “then eat cheese on toast. Do that often enough and I guarantee you’ll develop a wheat or lactose intolerance”.

Actually, the hard cheeses (cheddar for example) commonly used for cheese on toast are lactose free. Another inaccurate statement.
