I'm sure that is some excellent science and beer consumption is one of the few pieces of lifestyle advice that some would be eager to adopt. Interestingly, dietary ethanol has an impact on the absorption of inhaled mercury vapour (pdf). Although I doubt that few would advocate it for young people or for women who are hoping to conceive or are pregnant. I would need to look up which specific paper it was but there is a suggestion that alcohol consumption reduced the methyl mercury levels (from maternal fish consumption) of a small group in the Faroe study but to a smaller extent than with inorganic mercury. Alcohol as a 'de-toxifier' - that is some fabulous irony.

Should you be deeply interested in the probable amount of transfer of Al from your pot and to your tea, there are links above but, yes, it is low.

I wonder if it is possible to perform a Google timeline search that would show if this panic-talk about Al in vaccines is of comparatively recent origin and (as Orac suspects) only started gaining traction when it was obvious that the mercury hypothesis wasn’t working out for anti-vaxers.

This seems to another example of a journalist with a pre-disposition to sensationalism bending the facts and quotes to suit. It is very easy to casually read the article and conclude that serious side-effects are common and whistle-blowers are being ignored. Whereas on more careful consideration, even the very few instances of serious side-effects are being taken seriously and there is probably much more aluminium in my tea (thanks to the metal pot I brewed it in) than in a vaccine.
