The problem with tests like Livercheck, though, is that they’re not reliable enough to substitute for the more extensive testing which is available on the NHS: if you have reason to worry about your liver and Livercheck gives you a negative result, you should see your GP anyway in case the test is a false negative.

It’s a difficult balance. On the one hand home tests can probably be quite useful, as they could cut down on unnecessary GP visits. But as you say if they dissuade you from visiting the GP when you should, they can be a problem.

There was an article about home tests earlier this year in the Times. LiverCheck was one of the tests included.
