It’s great to see the government making an effort to get people talking about science with the Science: So What? campaign.  However, we were disappointed to see them overstating the evidence on childhood health and obesity.  Along with lots of … Continue reading

The Curse of the Monkey’s Paw Lives On – Poor Dr John Marks

Former Visiting Professor Patrick Holford continues to use the names of Dr John Marks and Professor Andre Tylee as endorsements of him and his work, long after they have made it clear to him that they wish this use of their names and reputations to stop. Why isn’t he using the names of his new colleagues? I think we should be told. Continue reading

They are promoting Maharani Rice because it is gluten-free and has a glycemic index (GI) of 52. Which might be impressive if rice were not already gluten-free and basmati rice didn’t already have a GI of 58. Continue reading

Patrick Holford: “conventional medicine, doesn’t have a very good track record”

Former Visiting Professor Patrick Holford announces that “conventional medicine, doesn’t have a very good track record”. You might think that you need some strong evidence to match the strength of that claim but it doesn’t seem as if Holford thinks so. Oddly enough, he uses these claims to justify his recommendation that you should purchase his services, services that don’t seem to represent value for money, judging by the inaccuracies contained in his writings.
