Jerome Burne posts on Patrick Holford’s blog about the need to “Save NHS money on ineffective drugs, not homeopathy”. Some self-reflection would be helpful, here. Continue reading

Jerome Burne and Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy: Part 3
We look at Jerome Burne’s evidence for the suggestion that bioidentical hormones may be protective against breast cancer and heart disease while offering promise of neuroprotective function. There is no strong evidence as yet that bio-identical hormones out-perform all progestins and some of these claims may be premature. Continue reading

Jerome Burne and Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy: Part 2
Jerome Burne relies upon a review of the efficacy and safety of bio-identical hormones by Dr Kent Holtorf. HolfordWatch has some concerns about the quality and coverage of this review. Continue reading
Jerome Burne and Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy: Part 1
Jerome Burne questions whether middle-aged women should be taking bio-identical hormones in preference to HRT. He relies upon a review of bio-identical hormones which is selective, over-extrapolates the evidence and for which the author does not state of conflict of interest although he has a clinic that specialises in bio-identical hormone replacement. Daily Mail, Jerome Burne Want to Scare or Mis-inform Readers About the Chickenpox Vaccine
Jerome Burne, co-author of Food Is Better Medicine Than Drugs, with anti-vaccinationist Patrick Holford, writes another anti-vax piece in the Daily Mail – which can’t make up its mind whether it wants to inform or terrify its readers. There are serious discussions to be had about whether or not the UK introduces chickenpox vaccination but this isn’t the way to do it. If Daily Mail had wanted to provide an informed and balance article, then they would have asked a credible expert to write it. Continue reading

Official Homeopathy Resource breaks some shocking news: New York Times: Beware of Anti-Homeopathy Journalists and Bloggers- They May Be Sponsored By Drug Companies. They name names – Dr Ben Goldacre and Gimpy. Except, it wasn’t really the NYT, except in the imagination of Official Homeopathy Resource, and the story wasn’t about anti-homeopathy journalists or bloggers. And the NYT didn’t namecheck either Goldacre or Gimpy. Homeopathy, bringing the accurate reports to your screen. Continue reading

Who Wrote About Food for the Brain in The Economist: Conflict of Interest?
It is with great sorrow and yet some amusement that we report the identity of the writer responsible for the recent, lamentable, credulous write-up about the Food for the Brain conference in The Economist. The article lauded nutritional approaches to the treatment of addiction. When you learn the identity of the author, you may think that there is a conflict of interest, we couldn’t possibly comment. Continue reading

Ben Goldacre Usually Gets The Science Wrong: Patrick Holford Speaks From His Own Reality
When Mythbuster Adam Savage was caught out in mis-remembering his predictions for the renactment of a famous scence from American Graffiti, he famously riposted, “I reject your reality and substitute my own”. Professor Patrick Holford is adopting a similar tactic. Holford states that Dr Ben Goldacre “usually gets the science wrong”. You really can not make this up. Continue reading
