Patrick Holford Promotes Error: Does This Explain His Continuing Support for Opposing MMR and Supporting Andrew Wakefield’s Research?

Former Visiting Professor Patrick Holford is still failing to reconsider his recommendations for the ‘treatment’ of autism despite the thorough examination of Andrew Wakefield’s research and related work and the conclusion that it is fatally flawed both by error and through deliberate manipulation. Continue reading

Patrick Holford on Andrew Wakefield: He Needs to Issue an Update

Several of Patrick Holford’s entrepreneurial products for autism have their theoretical justification in Andrew Wakefield’s work. With the recent explicit findings from the Autism Omnibus, it is clear that Wakefield’s research can not be relied upon (referred to in terms of “fraud” and “manipulation). It is past time for Holford to update his readers and subscribers who depend upon him for up-to-date research and advice. Continue reading

LBC and Global Radio, Currently London’s Biggest Sulk?

Dr Ben Goldacre has received a complaint from LBC and Global Radio that Jeni Barnett has received a volume of unpleasant email. We are sorry to hear that as many Bad Science bloggers will know how that feels from experience. Nonetheless, some of this might have been avoided if LBC and Global Radio had been more savvy in their handling of the issue and more ready to engage with the topic of what had irritated so many people. Continue reading

Jeni Barnett and the Missing Blog Posts About MMR Segment on LBC Radio

Jeni Barnett and LBC Radio, you might wish there to be an EMP to remove all traces of this sad and sorry incident concerning the ill-conceived MMR segment and the kerfuffle with Dr Ben Goldacre but that isn’t going to happen. Deleting blog posts will not help you mend fences. Continue reading

David Aaronovitch Calls for A Class Action Against Stupidity (Well, LBC Radio and Jeni Barnett, We’re Editorialising)

David Aaronovitch of The Times is on the side of Ben Goldacre in his dispute with LBC Radio about the Jeni Barnett MMR Segment. He semi-seriously calls for a class against LBC for permitting a presenter to inflict her preposterous prejudices on her listeners, to the detriment of someone else’s kids. Continue reading

Jeni Barnett. Has The Streisand Effect Taught You and LBC Radio Nothing?

Jeni Barnett and LBC Radio compound her mistakes of recent days (who knew that was possible) and delete comments from her blog posts. Except, on the internet, nothing ever really disappears. Continue reading

Andrew Wakefield Responds to Brian Deer: Summary, “I regret nothing…Single jabs are the way ahead”

Dr Andrew Wakefield has issued a response to Brian Deer that is effectively, “Anything that you criticise, some other guy done it. I am not wrong, I am a martyred hero, and single jabs are the best response to any upcoming measles epidemic”. Continue reading

Patrick Holford and His Recommendations for Vaccines: As Canard-Stuffed As We Feared

Former Visiting Professor Patrick Holford has issued an update of his vaccination advice for parents. It is full of the usual canards and mis-representations of research. He asks parents to consider the case of Hannah Poling but neglects to mention that she has an underlying mitochondrial disorder. He higlights the benefits of vitamin A without mentioning that such work is based on supplementation of children with deficiencies or who are malnourished. Continue reading
